Our school was truly blessed to celebrate Mass on Friday, our first with Father Michael! It was a beautiful opportunity to come together in faith as a school community. Thank you, Father Michael, for leading us in such a meaningful celebration!

The Whitecourt & Area Family Support program is excited to host a Free Family Movie Night on Friday, January 24 from 6-8pm at the Forest Interpretive Centre. We will be featuring Disney’s Pixar, Finding Nemo. Free popcorn will also be available and a brief intermission will explore the deep sea of communication!

The weather is looking cool for the beginning of this week, so please be sure to dress warm! It’s going to be a full week of collaborating, connecting, and creating at Ecole St. Mary School with MLA visits, option blocks, and Eastlink ski hill field trips.
-Monday, January 20: Farm safety presentations each grade level.
-Tuesday, January 21: Grade four basketball after school.
-Wednesday, January 22: Art club at lunch and grade 5/6 basketball after school.
-Thursday, January 23: MLA Martin Long presenting to our grade six students.
-Friday, January 24: Eastlink ski trip & pizza day.
A big thank you to Secure Energy for donating pizza for everyone attending the ski hill field trip!
Ms. Anthony was a good sport on Friday and let the students in our cosmology option use her as a model to learn to cut hair. Thank you Mrs. Jenna Stuckless for using your talents and gifts to help our students pursue their passions!

This month, we focus on the sacred teaching of Honesty, represented by the sabe. Mrs. Lori Simard’s grade six class has beautifully reflected on this value through thoughtful discussions and a creative craft inspired by Indigenous culture. Their work serves as a reminder to live with truthfulness and integrity in all that we do.

Students in 5-2 and 4-3 were blessed to have Mr. Detka come in to practice songs for Mass on Friday! We always appreciate his dedication to sharing his gifts and talents with our students.

Get ready for an exciting day at Roger's Place!
Hockey Hooky permission forms are going home today with interested students. The first 90 students who bring their completed permission forms and the $45 field trip fee to the school office starting tomorrow will secure their spot at the Oil Kings Hockey Hooky! Your child will come home with a green slip of paper indicating they have secured their spot, or with a yellow slip of paper indicating they are currently on the waiting list.
For parents wishing to pay via QuickPay:
Please submit your child's completed permission form to the school office.
The $45 field trip fee will be added to your child's account.
Please pay the fee as soon as possible to ensure your child's spot.

This month, we're focusing on the powerful virtue of resilience. Resilience is about standing strong in the face of challenges, trusting in God's plan, and growing stronger with each step we take. It’s about never giving up, no matter how tough things get.
Take a moment to talk with your child about what they've been learning. Ask them how they can use resilience at home—whether it's persevering through difficult homework or showing kindness and patience with family.

This week, we kicked off January options classes with enthusiasm and creativity! Students are exploring a wide range of engaging activities, from card games and crafts to floor hockey and mindful breathing… and more! These options allow our students to develop new skills, discover hobbies, and have fun while connecting with their peers and staff. It’s a great way to start the new year with excitement and energy!
